Holiday Beauty Gift Sets

If you are in desperate need of a gorgeous gift idea for the festive holiday, then check out my article that I wrote for Time & Leisure online.

My particular favourites include Benefit’s she’s so jetset* – a gorgeous kit, perfect for creating a glam and day to day look. I also love The Body Shop’s Ginger Sparkle Shower, Scrub & Moisture Collection*, this set smells absolutely delicious and is a great pick-me-up for a loved one who is feeling a bit under the weather. The Body Butter Lollipop gift set* is also a great gift; it contains a selection of yummy mini body butters of various flavours and is great for popping into your handbag.

Also, check out Steamcream, a multi-use product which can be used on body, hands and face. They come in lovely festive tins for the holidays. This Works have a number of pretty gifts, the Sleep Balm* and the Shimmer Balm* are definitely my top picks.

Sleek - Blush By 3 in Pink Spirit

I'm always in need of some colour on my cheeks and my current favourite blush is Sleek’s Blush By 3 in Pink Spirit. What I love about these blush palates is the fact that you have three blush shades to choose from. They are highly pigmented in colour and may seem a bit intimidating on first look.

The Pink Spirit palate includes shades Pinktini (a cranberry red), Pink Ice (a very bright pink) and Pink Parfait (a soft red). These colours are very on trend and I have found them to last all day. The best way to apply this product is to take your blush brush push it into the product and then get rid of any excess powder by dabbing it onto the back of your hand. Then gently sweep the blush over your cheeks for a pretty glow. My favourite is the soft red shade, Pink Parfait, as my skin tone is quite dark this colour shows up really well on my skin.

Like all Sleek products, this one comes in a handy compact with a little mirror and is small enough to slip into your handbag. I love this blush palate and I'm also planning on getting this in Pumpkin, which contains three gorgeous coral colours of oranges and soft pinks.

My Winter Skin Saviours

Winter is well and truly here, the weather can be really harsh on skin this time of year. I was lucky enough to attend the VIP Preview Night of Hyde Park Winter Wonderland on the 22nd November with my sister, Wafeekah (Basmah) and my friends Amina and Palak. It was not as cold then as it is now, but it was really windy. I had to make sure my skin was well prepared for the cold weather and here are some of the products that I used.

Warming Mineral Mask* – The Body Shop, RRP: £10.00
This mask is amazing! It instantly warms your skin the second that it is applied. It contains ginger and cinnamon oils and opens up pores for an invigorating cleanse. I applied this mask just before I attended the VIP preview night of Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, I was just getting over a really horrible cold and my skin was really dry and dull-like. This was the perfect mask for me to use as it completely revitalised my skin. Apply a thick and generous layer to the face, leave for 5 minutes and rinse. It’s a quick and simple way of refreshing your skin and is a really good mask to apply before a night out in the brutal winter weather.

Fresh Moisturising Body Milk* – Melvita, RRP: £16.00
This all natural, silky smooth moisturising body milk keeps my skin super hydrated all day and in winter this is vital. I suffer from eczema and my skin does not take kindly to not being moisturised. This body milk includes fresh ingredients of wild rose petals, rose floral water and rose seed milk and smells absolutely gorgeous. I have been using this body milk daily since November and it gives my skin a soft and comforting feel. It is absolutely imperative that you moisturise all over in winter as the wind is so much harsher this time of year. A high street alternative would be Palmer’s Cocoa Butter or Vaseline Cocoa Butter Smoothing Body Butter.

Wonder Eye Cream* – Balance Me, RRP: £20.00
The skin around your eyes is so delicate, so if you decide to use an eye cream you should use one that won’t make your eyes feel heavy or weighed down. I love Balance Me’s Wonder Eye Cream; this product is best suited for people who find the skin around their eyes really dry and at times a bit tight. I pat and blend this cream around my area every morning and evening and I have really seen and felt a difference. The cream formula includes Roman chamomile, skin-brightening lemon, witch hazel, cucumber oil, hyaluronic acid, anti-oxidant spruce knot and virgin coconut, rosehip and carrot oils. This cocktail of ingredients helps to smooth fine lines and brighten up the eye area.

Barrier Repair* – Dermalogica, RRP: £34.50
I always keep this little gel-like emulsion with me in my handbag; it’s a brilliant product for targeting dry areas on your face. It basically helps to strengthen the natural barrier of your skin and to shield your face against any potential damage. I love the velvet texture of this moisturiser, it’s so light and it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing anything at all. A little goes a long way with this product and it helps to banish any discomfort you may be experiencing due to itching. It’s a tad pricey but it is worth it, although there are websites that stock this product at a more affordable price.

Sleek Loveage

Sleek is my favourite drugstore/high street brand. The quality of the products are brilliant and the prices don’t burn a hole in my pocket. So a win win all round!
Below is my Sleek collection, what’s great about these products are that they are both suitable for everyday makeup and special occasions. I highly recommend them all! Enjoy!

1)      True Colour Lipstick in shades Mulberry and Cherry RRP: £4.99 - These lipsticks are super creamy and contain vitamin E. The colours are so rich and last all day long, I love this lipstick in the cherry shade (an elegant red) and mulberry (a dramatic black purple).

2)      i Divine Eye shadow Palates in Storm and Respect RRP: £7.99 – I love eye shadow palates, it’s so easy to create a lovely eye look without going back forth with different products. These shadows are highly pigmented and suit most skin tones. The Storm palate is made up 12 soft shades; I mainly use these shadows for soft day to day looks. They’re easy to blend and stay put for ages.

3)      I recently bought this palate in Respect which is a limited edition. This palate is inspired by the glamorous colours of the 60 and includes gorgeous shades of pretty corals pinks and oranges.

4)      Be Beautiful Blemish Balm in Medium RRP: £8.99 – Recently BB creams have become increasingly popular. BB creams are essentially all-in-one products and can be used as concealer, tinted moisturiser and primer. Most BB creams also include an SPF and are packed with vitamins. Sleek’s BB Balm contains vitamin E, SPF 15 and jojoba oil, which moisturisers the skin intensely. I love this product because it allows you to build the coverage easily from medium to full and a little bit goes along way. This balm comes in 4 shades, feels really light on my skin and is great for the autumn/winter weather.

5)      Eau La La Liner in Noir and Raisin RRP: £4.99 – I mentioned these in my previous post and they’re my favourite multi-use liners at the moment.

6)      Face Contour Kit in Medium RRP: £6.49 – This cute little contour kit was a gift from my sweet Zaynab (xx). I have yet to master the art of contouring on myself and this kit is great for practicing. This mini palate includes a dark matte pressed powder, a shimmery highlighter and a little mirror. I love this product as the pressed powder is really soft and easy to apply and the highlighter lasts all day. Also, you can apply a little bit of the highlighter to the brow bone to give your eyes an extra twinkle.

I have just purchased the Blush by 3 in Pink Spirit and the i Divine Eye shadow palate in Ultra Mattes V1. I can’t wait to play around with them and I’ll be sure to post a review up of them soon.

My Makeup Bag

There is no denying that I am a makeup junkie, but I really do not like carrying around loads of products in the makeup that comes out with me. Here are the items that generally live in my handbag.

1)      Metallic Silver Clinique Makeup Bag – This little makeup bag is perfect for me to pack all my essentials in neatly and it slots into my handbag so well. I was kindly sent this little bag from Clinique last year and I absolutely love it, it’s sturdy and the embossed floral print is really sweet.

2)      Thailand Souvenir Mirror – I have a bit of an obsession with compact mirrors and have quite a few. I recently rediscovered this one; it was given to me by a work colleague as a token of her trip to Thailand. I love the elephants and on the other side there is a circle pattern in pinks and silvers, I use it all the time now.

3)      Clinique Naturally Glossy Mascara – This mascara is just the thing for a pretty day look and the ultra thin tube makes it easy to carry around. The silky and clump free formula makes it simple and quick to use when in a rush.

4)      M.A.C. Lipstick in Ramblas Red – I am a big fan of a red lip and this is my favourite red lipstick. The colour is so vibrant and by layering it on you can create a really bold lip. For a more subtle day look I press the colour onto my lips lightly with my finger tips. This creates a long-wearing stain, if you want to define your pout further line with M.A.C’s Lip Pencil in Burgundy.

5)      Benefit’s the POREfessional – I know for a fact that I am not the only girl who counts this balm as one of her key products. The POREfessional reduces the appearance of pores drastically and I use it mainly to my t-zone after I’ve applied my foundation. This balm can also be worn alone without makeup and is oil-free and translucent. It has a silky-smooth texture, which makes you feel as if you’re not wearing anything and it’s suitable for all skin tones.

6)      Clinique’s Chubby Stick in Fuller Fig – Clinique’s Chubby Sticks are amazing! They simultaneously provide full on colour and moisturise your lips. It’s basically a lipstick with all the benefits of a lip balm. I love the way this product comes in the form of a large colouring pencil, it’s really playful and makes me feel like a kid again (not that I ever really feel like an adult). I love the shade Fuller Fig in this Chubby Stick as it is a lovely natural brown colour and is a nice way to achieve a nude lip. Sometimes If I’m feeling experimental I apply this Chubby Stick and then mix a little of my M.A.C Ramblas Red lipstick into the centre of my pout. It gives quite a nice effect; try it if you ever want a new way of wearing your lip colour.

7)      Sleek’s Eau La La Liner in Noir – Sleek’s Eau La La Liner’s are handy to have in your makeup bag, as they’re multi-use liners and smudge proof. They come in 20 creamy colours and can be used as an eye liner, a lip liner or an eyebrow pencil.

8)      L’Oreal Concealer in 09 Coffee – I always put my foundation on at home, unless I’m running late for work. Sometimes I just put concealer on where needed, which is usually under the eyes and around the nose and mouth area. I picked this concealer up in the duty free in Heathrow, when I was on my way to Mauritius. I was in such a rush and I remembered that I’d completely forgotten my concealer. I desperately needed one as I was going to three weddings in Mauritius and I had to look my best. So this was a bit of a risk product – but it proved to be a giant success, it’s so easy to use and blends nicely. It does a great job of hiding those pesky blemishes and dark circles all day long. Whilst I was in Mauritius, it became my job to do all the makeup for my cousins for the weddings we went to. They absolutely LOVED this concealer, so much so I left it with them and picked myself up a new once when I got back to London.

9)      Oriflame’s Tender Care – Now that we have progressed into the colder part of the year, it’s imperative that I have some sort of moisturiser in my handbag at all times. I suffer from eczema, so the cold weather can be really harsh on my hands and face. This little pot by Oriflame is perfect! It’s small enough to fit into my makeup bag and is a multi-use product (my favourite kind). You can apply the balm to ANY dry area such as, face, lips, hands, elbows, feet, hair – wherever you like! It instantly soothes dryness and contains vitamin E and beeswax.

So those are the key items that I usually take around with me in my handbag. Sometimes I’ll change my lip colour to something else or I’ll take out an item I don’t think I’ll use again once I've applied it once. Check out the links below, if you want to know more information about any of the featured products.

Recent Beauty Purchases

After a lovely dinner with friends, I remembered I had to visit Boots to pick up some beauty items that have been on my mental beauty list for a while.

For me, going into Boots/Superdrug is never just a pop-in-pop-out sort of visit. I always see more than one thing that I want and usually I walk out with bags full of beauty/skincare products. I realise that this is, of course, not the most sensible thing to be doing. On this particular visit, I am glad to say I only bought THREE products (I’m learning).  The two I’m going to be including in this post are the Queen Attitude Khol Kajal by BourJois Paris and the Real Techniques Setting Brush.

Queen Attitude Khol Kajal by BourJois Paris RRP - £6.99

BourJois Paris's Queen Attitude Khol Kajal

This is such a handy little eye liner to have in your makeup bag, in just one night it has become a hit in my household. My mother, who is a big fan of kohl was absolutely delighted at the sight of it, squealed like a little girl and demanded I apply it to her eyes. It was so easy to apply and the colour came out so easily in a gorgeous jet black. It’s a great product to include in a smoky eye look or you  can apply it to your waterline for a simple but effective way of defining your eyes. Easy to blend and super soft it is my current favourite eye liner of the moment.

Real Techniques Setting Brush RRP - £8.99

Real Techniques Setting Brush

I am addicted to the Real Techniques brushes. I currently have two, the Expert Face brush and the Stippling brush. Both are key brushes in my set and I use them all the time with my makeup application. So I’m always looking out for another one to add to my little collection. This brush is so soft and perfect for setting your makeup in place. I love how it’s not too big so if you just wanted to set your concealer in place under your eyes or around the nose area, it’s just the thing!

M.A.C. Fabulous Holiday Kits

As a makeup devotee, M.A.C. is one of my favourite brands and I just can’t get enough of their products. With the holidays just around the corner, M.A.C has a number of Holiday Kits which are absolutely gorgeous and will make beautiful gifts for the festive season.  I am obsessed with the Fabulousness Holiday Eye Kits and the All For Glamour: Holiday Face Kits and for this reason they have made my Wish List.

Fabulousness Holiday Eye Kits RRP - £32.00:

M.A.C.'s Fabulousness Holiday Eye Kits

These shadows will blend together nicely for either an ultra chic look or a glamorous holiday look. The kit comes in three choices of 5 Neutral Eyes, 5 Warm Eyes and 5 Smoky Eyes. Each one comes in a romantic bow satin compact with an interior mirror and fluffy brush.

I am officially in love with these and want (no NEED) this kit in Smoky Eyes. The colours include Spellcaster (a matte aubergine), Taupeless (a lavender pink sheen), Black Slip (a blackened plum pearl), Satin Taupe (a silver shimmery taupe) and Love Spice (a mid-tone rosy pinky pearl). MINE!

All For Glamour: Holiday Face Kits (Fabulousness) RRP - £39.50:

M.A.C.'s All For Glamour: Holiday Face Kits (Fabulousness)

I love, love, LOVE the look of these face kits. They come in a similar satin compact to the Fabulousness Holiday Eye Kits. The romantic look of this kit is too sweet and would make the perfect gift for a loved one (hint, hint to any of my loved ones).

I particularly love the All For Glamour Face Kit: Gorgeous Bronze. This kit includes a gorgeous bronzing powder in tan-beige, eye shadows in Hearts-a-flutter (a warm silver pearl pink), Romance Me (a plum gold with pearl) and Shadowy Lady (a luxurious blackened plum) and lipsticks in Headturner (a cream plum) and Barely Lit (a neutral pink with gold pearls).

The All For Glamour Touch Up Kit is the other kit that is featured in this fabulous collection and comes in Medium, Medium Dark and Dark. The kit contains a creamy lipstick and blot powder. This is a must-have for your bag, gorgeous in design and perfect for those on-the-go touch ups.
